VEEAM BACKUP FROM STORAGE SNAPSHOTS PLUS
Now with the feature set that Enterprise plus offers, the end user can leverage the last snapshot that occurred in their storage array before said incident happened. Most companies I have worked with have an acceptable loss SLA of 12 hours. This is called an acceptable loss by most companies. So all of the data that occurred that day up until 2:00 is lost.
VEEAM BACKUP FROM STORAGE SNAPSHOTS PRO
But with a traditional method the It Pro can only recover data from the last time they backed up. The IT pro goes to recover data to get his business back online. This is the most standard practice I see from end users.īut what happens if the next day a disaster occurs? In this example let's say the disaster occurs at say 2:00 in the afternoon the next day. More resources are available, easier traffic of data through the pipe and more bandwidth availability. Most people run their backups at night when everyone is off the system. Now streamlining the flow of your traffic and alleviating contention is great but what else can Veeam do with storage snapshots? Well since the storage is taking these snapshots throughout the day then it gives us more restore times to recover from. By leveraging storage snapshots we don't have this problem and we can streamline the resources of your servers. All the time we are doing this VMware is running in the background. When Veeam takes the snapshot from VMware we have to convert it, then compress it, then DE duplicate it and finally send it to storage. Veeam can leverage these snapshots now and with that comes a whole new ballgame!įirst why is using a storage snapshot more beneficial than the VMware snapshot? The answer is, since we don't have to leverage the VMware snapshot we don't have to fight for resources on the same server. However in today's market, storage vendors like EMC, HPE, NETAPP and NIMBLE all take their own snapshots from within the stroage array. This is fine, works great and is what Veeam has based its capture of Backups from since our inception. For most end users Veeam uses the snapshot that VMware creates. So with the above mentioned storage types Veeam can leverage backups in a different way.

But for the most part looking at your storage will be the determining factor. Unless you need a WAN accelerator because your replication pipeline is less than 100MEG. So if you are not using one of these storage types then you have your answer right there. EMC, NETAPP, HPE 3PAR and soon to come NIMBLE. Remember first that Enterprise plus caters to those who utilize certain storage types. Good question! Why indeed go Enterprise plus vs.Enterprise with Veeam? So lately in my discussion with many end users out there the question that most often comes up with me is "Why should I go with Enterprise Plus vs Enterprise? The two editions don’t look that different."
